International Folklore Festival in the Azores
Our highlight this year will be participation in the 36th International Folklore Festival in the Azores in Portugal – we were invited to represent German folklore in the 8-day program in August 2022 in front of a Portuguese and international audience.
As part of the festival, each group shows a ten-minute opening program and a ten-minute closing program. Spread over the festival days, each group has the opportunity to present their repertoire in four approx. 20-minute performances. During the festival, an international gastronomic market is also planned, where typical dishes and handicrafts from different countries will be presented, a joint final dance, which will be rehearsed with all groups at the festival, a folklore fashion show with traditional costumes and an interactive workshop part where groups can teach each other their dances.
The focus of the planned festival participation is the German-Portuguese cultural transfer. The aim of our group is to bring people closer to German folklore in its lively naturalness, its richness of form and beauty with high artistic standards and to benefit equally from the diverse impressions of Portuguese culture in particular – the international folklore festival in the Azores offers one for this completely new platform for cultural exchange and the varied enrichment of experience such as the further development of our dancers and musicians.
